Admit Palestine, Google protested by Israel


Tel Aviv - Israel question the internet giant Google's decision to replace the term "Palestinian Territories" with "Palestine" on page www.google.ps. "These changes raise questions about the reasons behind this decision," said a spokesman for the Israeli foreign ministry, Yigal Palmor.

He mentions, Google's move as "shocking". The reason, he said, should not have a private internet company in the realm of international politics and the controversial side.

Previously, Google officially announced the change. Changes come into force as of 1 May, Google spokesman Nathan Tyler said in a statement.

"We changed the name of the 'Palestinian Territories' to 'Palestine' on all our products. We consulted with a variety of sources and authorities before naming the countries. In this case, we follow the UN and other international organizations," he said.

UN General Assembly in November to improve the status of Palestine as a non-member observer state by 138 votes in favor, nine against and 41 abstentions.

Palestinian Authority since it uses the term "State of Palestine" in the diplomatic correspondence and official stamps issued for the purpose.
