Why Cry Baby subside when worn?

They say that when a baby is lifted and cuddled, their heart rate slows and they automatically become very relaxed. However, this does not happen when they just held it, as this study explains.
Scientists from the RIKEN Brain Science Institute say their study is the first to demonstrate infants' responses when worn as a set of coordinated neural circuits, motor, and regulation of the heart.
In experiments involving ECG machine, which measures the electrical activity of the heart, they found that the baby's heart rate slows down as soon as they are taken to be picked up. Using ECG system is very small, they are also able to observe the same phenomenon in mice.
Both human infants and infant rats gradually calm down and stop agitated after they picked up. In mice, they stop emitting ultrasonic cries. Mice also reflexively adopt compact posture when worn, with the legs bent, seen also in other mammals such as cats and lions.
"These babies reduce response burden bring their parent, and beneficial both for mother and baby," said one study author, Dr. Kumi Kuroda.
The researchers added that their findings have important implications for parents and may even contribute to prevent violence against children.
