NBA player Jason Collins Announces He Gay
New York - Former NBA star, Jason Collins, announced that he was gay. He admitted during an interview for the cover story of Sports Illustrated magazine. Collins, who work in more than 700 NBA games, played last season with Boston and Washington.
Male 34 years previously played for Atlanta, Minnesota, Memphis, and New Jersey. "If I follow my way, someone else would have done this, my hands," he said.
His decision to admit he was gay got support of many parties. Moreover, he did considered quite daring. He became the first active player in the four major American professional sports who claimed to be gay. "Glad to see my colleague, Jason Colllins. He was a true American," wrote the Toronto Raptors star, Rudy Gay.
"We have to get rid of shyness. Was the main thing. And Jason will help. He will help give people the courage to tell the truth," said Billie Jean King, a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. "I guarantee she will feel lighter, much more freely. Truth set you free."
Collins finished the season with the NBA's Washington Wizards. He now has not been tied to any club, but he said he wanted to keep playing.
